Hearthstone Ridge is a beautiful mountain community located in Rutherford County with easy access from two interstate highways, I-40 and I-26. Just a short distance away you will find two of the most picturesque mountain towns in NC. Chimney Rock, with its 175 residents has unique rock formations, quaint little shops, restaurants, motels, and of course Chimney Rock Park with an array of beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails and majestic mountain views. Lake Lure, with just over 1000 residents, is home to hit movies such as Dirty Dancing and Last of the Mohicans. There are boat rides, dinner cruises and several nice restaurants on the lake. The lake has approximately 21 miles of shoreline, a sandy beach, spectacular views, water skiing, fishing, boating, swimming, and is sure to be a hit with people of all ages.

Rutherfordton, NC. , a quaint little town of just over 4,100 residents and the county seat, is less than 10 minutes away. There you have a 150-bed hospital, all major food stores, Super Wal-Mart, Lowe’s home improvement, Belks, plus many antique, specialty shops and outlet stores. The local college, Isothermal Community College, offers a full array of educational, hobby and adult courses.

Rutherford County has four distinct seasons and has been recognized as one of the best places in the country to retire to because of a unique climatic area referred to as the Isothermal Belt. (“ Iso” meaning constant and “thermal” meaning temperature.) We are in an area of constantly mild temperatures. Simply put, Rutherford County does not get quite as warm in the summer and does not get quite as cold in the winter as other counties in the surrounding area. The spring season offers mild days and cool nights. The native dogwoods (the state tree) and wild rhododendrons with their vibrant blooms are a site to behold. The fall is typical Western North Carolina, ideal weather and gorgeous fall colors, which usually last until Thanksgiving.

Golf is just a short drive away at Apple Valley and Bald Mountain country clubs. Both are 18 hole championship courses and open to the public. There are several stables in the area offering a variety of activities from trail rides to lessons and stabling your own horses. Within a 45 minute drive we have a dozen trout streams, five major lakes, some of the best hiking in the east, on the Daniel Boone trail over Grandfather Mountain, the Appalachian Trail and Linville Gorge (one of only three Federal Wilderness areas east of the Rocky Mountains.) There is excellent snow skiing at Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain and a host of other ski areas just a short drive away.
